There’s no doubt that the UK is facing an energy crisis. According to research from 2024, approximately 13% of households (3.17 million) are experiencing “fuel poverty .” This is a frightening figure, and people are facing rising energy prices in every property they own: rented homes, offices, and brick-and-mortar stores. Prices are rising across all sectors.

Energy poverty is driving more and more real estate companies to find alternative, more sustainable ways to finance their operations and continue to satisfy customers. This is precisely the approach taken by TITAN Containers. TITAN has installed solar panel systems at its storage facility in Kolding, Denmark, demonstrating what is possible in countries with similar climates.

This installation sets a new benchmark for sustainability in the storage industry and demonstrates TITAN’s commitment to modern and innovative solutions for customers around the world.

With around 100 self-storage locations worldwide , this is a huge operational leap for TITAN. They can now understand what it takes to run a fully solar-powered storage facility . This first location will help the team deploy solar solutions more quickly, efficiently, and effectively across the UK and beyond.

WHERE IT ALL BEGAN: THE RISE OF SOLAR POWER FOR TITAN IN DENMARK

In 2021, the TITAN team had one mission: to create the firstSelf-storage container facility in Denmark powered entirely by solar energy.

It was a monumental undertaking, especially considering the amount of space needed to accommodate a sufficient number of panels for the Danish sun. Luckily, there’s plenty of space in Denmark; it can be easier to run out of sunlight.

In September 2022, the team received the keys to the storage facility in Kolding, southern Denmark. The facility needed some renovation, but the foundations and space confirmed they had made the right decision.

After a couple of months of hard work, patience, and happy people, we transformed the abandoned storage facility into a space that combines utility and sustainability. And we couldn’t be more proud.

A TOUR OF THE FIRST SOLAR-POWERED STORAGE LOCATION IN KOLDING, DENMARK

The Kolding facility offers 17,000 square meters of storage space . The internal storage hall covers an impressive 1,800 square meters: 57 spaces were already present when we took possession, and we plan to build approximately 60 more to meet Kolding’s demand.

There is also a 260-square-meter workshop for container repairs and other on-site services.

The outdoor self-storage area covers 4,500 square meters, providing ample space for storage and, more importantly, for solar panels.

By replacing the old roof, TITAN created a platform capable of generating clean, renewable energy to power the 1,800 m2 indoor hall. We also added a 10 kWh battery to ensure continuous power supply for CCTV surveillance cameras, lighting, and other crucial functions during nighttime hours. All our storage locations are accessible 24/7 thanks to an electric gate system connected to customers’ smartphones.

This way, we not only reduce our carbon footprint but also our energy costs, benefiting both our customers and the environment. It’s a win-win, long-term solution.

Una flotta elettrica per muovere e trasferire le merci

Le nostre innovazioni non si limitano all’energia solare. ILLUMINAZIONE INTELLIGENTE PER SOLUZIONI COMPLETE

Il team ha inoltre integrato luci intelligenti in tutto l’ufficio. Queste luci sono dotate di sensori avanzati che si adattano alla luce naturale disponibile ed emettono solo l’illuminazione necessaria per una visione confortevole.

Ad esempio, quando la luce del giorno diminuisce, i sensori aumentano gradualmente la luminosità per garantire un ambiente ben illuminato, mantenendo ottimale l’emissione luminosa. Quando la luce naturale è più forte, i sensori attenuano l’illuminazione artificiale. Proprio come lo schermo di uno smartphone si adatta alla luce circostante per offrirti sempre la migliore luminosità dello schermo.

Inoltre, la sala interna è ora divisa in sei zone, ciascuna dotata di lampade controllate da sensore di movimento. Questa configurazione dinamica consente ai clienti di spostarsi con facilità negli spazi di self-storage, in qualsiasi momento del giorno e senza dover accendere o spegnere le luci manualmente, un compito che può rilevarsi complicato quando hai le mani occupate o non conosci bene l’ambiente.
